FAQ
This tool is a public, searchable view of climate-relevant legislation being introduced across U.S. states.
You can browse and filter bills by state and by climate topic to understand what’s being proposed and how it connects to issues like clean energy, transportation, climate pollution, and more. The table helps you spot trends, compare states, and find bills you may want to learn about or follow.
We built an internal categorization script that uses large language model (LLM) analysis to annotate bills based on a predefined set of climate topics.
Note that LLM classifications are probabilistic and may occasionally flag bills that are not substantively climate-focused. Comparing to several topic-specific bill lists, however, we found a <10% rate of false positives.
This tool is for anyone who wants an easy way to understand what climate-related bills are being introduced in their state without needing policy expertise. It’s also useful for climate and government stakeholders who want a quick, high-level map of climate legislation activity across states.
